The illustration is a photo taken by Stan Smith at a palace in West Bengal, India, on the Hooghly River, north of Calcutta. 
Professor Smith’s latest publication is Poetry and Displacement (Liverpool University Press). Family Fortunes/Journeys to War, a collection of poems, will be published in 2008 by Shoestring Press. He is the author of Irish Poetry and the Construction of Modern Identity (Irish Academic Press, 2005).
